Project Description

Endometriosis Awareness Campaign

Endometriosis is a commonly misdiagnosed chronic illness that affects the reproductive system of women. It is a chronic and debilitating condition stigmatized as ‘painful periods’, hence women are often misdiagnosed or treated. The objectives of the project are to raise awareness of the symptoms of endometriosis so more women can receive diagnosis and treatment and to highlight the consequences of endometriosis.

This campaign has empowered women to dismantle menstrual myths, widen knowledge of women’s reproductive health and natural changes, as well as advocate for improved health care for women and girls.

The Endometriosis campaign was launched in 2018 on social media. Stories of women with a suspected or actual diagnosis of Endometriosis were shared anonymously to solidify the challenges of the condition while raising awareness.

In observance of International Women Day 2019, SRHR Adventures participated through a booth at the Canadian High Commission Exhibition. As advocates, the team engaged the public with communication materials and speech to educate individuals about endometriosis. The activity also entailed an awareness social media campaign with a female patron; Queen Young leader Ms. Marva Langevine and workshops at Tucville Secondary School.
